Aladdin Street co-founder and chairman Dato’ Dr Sheikh Muszaphar is an entrepreneur, surgeon, author and the first Malaysian to go into space. Today he is orthopaedic surgeon at the University of Kembangsann in Malaysia and a Research Fellow at Malaysia’s Institute of Space Science. He has received multiple awards including the Malaysian Icon Award, a Metritis Award from Malaysia’s Open University, the ASEAN Outstanding Business Award for Science and Technology, and the Asian Outstanding Achiever Award. He is an active promoter of science education and actively involved in outreach among Malaysian youth for a series of international scientific initiatives.
Founded in 2015 Aladdin Street has grown rapidly to become the world’s biggest halal e-marketplace. Today it’s opening up sales for a host of merchants selling premium products internationally and expects to be in 30 countries by the end of this year. With the global halal market set to reach $1.6tn by 2018, and with its growth rate dramatically outstripping that of the rest of the food market, the opportunities for producers to create innovative products and bring them to market have never been greater.
